Harness Your Power: Step - by - Step Adds Up!

Is it just me?  Or, is time moving really fast these days?

I find that a day seems to go by as fast as a few hours.  A week feels like it was only a day.  I often sit and wonder how I will ever be able to make the progress my heart yearns for.  It appears there just isn't enough time for everything I want to accomplish.

I have concluded that daily baby steps taken on my desires ADD UP!  There are times when it feels like the little moves forward make no difference.  I look ahead and the destination I am aiming for still seems so far away.  Yet, with determination and passion, I stay focused and keep moving forward, doing whatever I possibly can each day to progress.

Keep taking your daily baby steps toward your dream.  Don't give up.  The effort you are putting in is worthwhile!   Enjoy the entire journey.  Each step provides essential learning for your soul's development.  Be exuberant and joyful as you experience life.

Here are a few quotes I found that I thought might uplift you:

“Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.”  (Mark Victor Hansen)

"Progress always involves risk; you can't steal second base and keep your foot on first base.” (Frederick Wilcox)

"Never discourage anyone...who continually makes progress, no matter how slow."  Plato

Keep moving forward!
I'm moving forward with you,

Harness Your Power: Notice the Fear

I am amazed at the number of layers of fear I have inside me.  I've been working on my fears for years now -- looking at each one, studying it and letting it go.  Yet, it seems that because I am willing to release all my fear, life brings me all the right situations to help me see what fear still remains.

There is nothing new under the sun.  The humans who have walked this planet for thousands of years before me have all thought and felt these things.  Those who come after me will feel fear too.  Yet, each human does make it through their journey on earth.  This being the case, what if we could skip the stress and anxiety piece of it and walk life in peace even int he difficult times.

Things always have a way of working out.  I'd rather go through a struggle and not drain my energy.  I'd rather feel well every day than have knots in my neck and stomach.  So, I continue to devote my focus to understanding the depths of my fears.  I'm learning about myself in deeper and deeper ways because of my willingness to see and know.  I am always shown more insights.  For this I am thankful.

On another note, I was fortunate to have spent time with a fantastic Nigerian artist, Nneka Egbuna.  You really should check out her music.  (http://www.nnekaworld.com/us/video ).  Her lyrics are deeply spiritual and her music moves the soul.  She made some profound statements about life and love that I am excited to share via my column in Vanguard Newspaper.

Maggie and Skye, my daughters, are big fans of hers because I play Nneka's music all the time in the car.  They had the privilege of seeing her perform and then meeting her backstage.  How blessed we are.

I pray this week that we are able to see the fears that bind us and keep us from feeling well.  May we each identify those fears and may we be guided to release the fear and move into an inner knowing that All is Well...All is Well all the time.

(As a continuation to last week's blog, my neighbor and her baby are now safely checked into a six-month drug rehab program.  It is a joy to see them launched into a new phase and I pray that healing and progress happen for them in these upcoming months.)

Harness Your Power: Flow with Life's Surprises

On Friday I boarded a plane to Dallas, TX.  This was to be the first stop on my journey to Albuquerque, NM.  We took off at 11 a.m.  Plane had already been delayed several hours.  While in flight we were told the Dallas airport was closed.  The pilot took us to Little Rock, Arkansas.  The airport didn't have any free gates open so we sat in the plane for four hours until the Dallas airport reopened.

While sitting there for four hours, I had some great conversation with fellow passengers and chose not to look at my watch even once.  I reminded myself, "I will get there when I get there."

Finally we arrived.  I go to the American Airlines counter and I'm told, "All flights to New Mexico have been cancelled for the remainder of the day."  My mom and I are given a voucher for a local hotel and find our way there.

To go with the flow or to fight with the reality of life?   It was all out of my control.  All I could do was choose a perspective that permitted me to experience peace and well-being during these unexpected changes to our schedule.

Friday we woke up, had breakfast and boarded a plane to Albuquerque.  At last we had arrived.  It was a relief and a joy to finally be to our destination.

I'm here in Albuquerque with the intention of finishing my first book.  I came here last October with the same intention.  I made great progress on my last trip but there was more that I needed to learn, ways I needed to stretch in order for the books to be fully written.

I will be honest and tell you that I have NEVER written a book.  It can feel daunting at times.  The self-doubt arises, "Trish, who are you to think you have a book to write and share with others?  You haven't done this so how do you think you know what it means to write a book?  What are you thinking trying to pull this off?"

This trip I have decided to put all self-doubt and fear aside -- the ironic thing is that is partially what my book teaches.  It's funny that writing a book on transforming your thinking forces the author to further transform her own :)

I am enjoying the process.  I've decided to release all timetables and inner pressure to GET IT DONE.  Instead, I am spending the time in silence and stillness.  I'm swimming, walking and sitting in nature.  I'm resting when needed.  And, I'm opening my computer to write anytime I feel inspired.  One day, I am sure, this book will get done.

The cover is designed.  The graphic artist awaits the final text for interior design.  I remind myself, all things happen in God's time.  I surrender myself to this amazing process.  I never would have believed it could be tihs challenging.  Perhaps I never would have started it if I knew!

So this week, why not GO WITH THE FLOW!  Enjoy the unexpected twists and turns on your path.  If you open to these moments rather than fight with them, you may find some wonderful life lessons and even a few joyful moments too.

Pay attention to your fear and self-doubt.  Why not see your power?  Why not understand the potential you have?  As you let go of these harmful thought patterns and open to seeing the good in yourself, you may find some amazing things come about -- who knows -- maybe YOU will be writing a book soon.

With all my love
Please say a prayer of inspiration for me this week :)

Harness Your Power: Stay Focused & Be Patient

Ponder this, “It’s the constant and determined effort that breaks down all resistance and sweeps away all obstacles.” (Claude M. Bristol)

Are you tired of the obstacles you encounter as you focus your energy on creating the life of your dreams?

Remember, the river flows gently and easily around any rock that appears in its path. You can move beyond obstacles like this too!

Perhaps you aren’t seeing progress happen as fast as you’d like and you’ve gotten frustrated.

Relax.  Life unfolds in the perfect time.  Be patient.

Keep focused. Day-by-day effort adds up. You are paving a new path. Of course there will be challenges!

Enjoy each moment of your path.  Don't postpone happiness until the changes come.  Enjoy today for what it is.

I wrote this message for me and for you.  These reminders are very helpful for those of us who desire continued growth and aspire to reach our highest potential.

Have a blessed week ahead...and relax your spirit.  It may be easier than you think :)

Harness Your Power: Live Life Fully

I saw a wonderful movie on New Year's Eve called The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was the story of a baby who is born with the makeup of an old, 80 year old man. As he gets older in age, his body gets younger and younger. It was a heart-warming story and I found myself in tears at several points in the movie.

First, during childbirth Benjamin's mother dies. So the father, in great despair over the baby's monster-like appearance as well as the death of his wife, runs through the town and leaves the baby on the steps of a home. Little did he know that it was a home for the aging. What touched me early in the movie is the way that Queenie, a woman who worked at the home, accepted and loved this baby, adopting him as her own child, even though others found him difficult to look at. Benjamin was given a loving home that supported him during his early years.

The movie showed how quickly the cycle of life moves . People were continually dying in this old folk's home and babies were being born. It caused me to notice how fast my own life is moving -- I am 35 now and my children are growing bigger and smarter by the day. I don't want to miss out on any of the richness of life's experiences. I want to be tuned in and engage all of my senses on this wonderful adventure that I'm living. I want each day to be full of joy and purpose.

Love was another topic the movie addressed. Benjamin and a beautiful young lady found a soul connection. Throughout the movie they reappeared in each other's lives. It was a passionate, intense love that they shared for one another. Because of Benjamin's disease of growing younger, towards the end of the movie he chose to distance himself from his wife and family. What struck my heart deeply was the importance of fully loving and enjoying the people we care for because you never know how life's twists and turns might prevent you from being as close as you once were.

Live fully. Enjoy all aspects of life -- the upturns and downturns, the times that make you cry and the times that cause you to laugh. We are here to experience as much of our journey as we can allow ourselves. There are rich details of life that are very easy to miss if you are distracted or depressed. Slow your mind. Live in the now. Open your eyes further. See the textures, smell the scents, feel the touches of others, hear others in a new way. Don't miss out.

The time of your life is NOW! It's not in the distance. Will you allow yourself to start 2009 with a new awareness of how miraculous your life is? No matter what challenge you are facing or what mountain you have just climbed, enjoy where you are.

All is well, my friends. It is better than what the media tells you. Don't allow the sensationalized, fear-based news to get you worked up. Stop tuning in to these voices. Instead, look at your life right now and see all the blessings available to you. These blessings come in so many forms -- smiles, touches, laughter, sunrises, sunsets, clouds in funny shapes, flowers standing tall for you to see them, trees reminding you of your strength....take note of it all!

I send each of you a warm hug. May the comfort and guidance of the Universe fill your heart this week.

I'm always here if you need me, only ever an email away,

Harness Your Power: Self-Belief

Since it was rainy here in Philadelphia on the Fourth of July, we took the kids to a movie called Kung Fu Panda. It was a cute, animated flick. There were two ideas in the movie that got me thinking. (They always seem to plant some interesting ideas in kid's movies for the parents.)

The Kung Fu master in the movie was an old turtle. In several situations he said, "There are no accidents in the Universe." The other characters he said this to struggled with this idea -- fighting to show that this could not be possible-- that something was wrong that this big, chubby panda was chosen to receive the Dragon Scrolls.

This got me thinking about myself. While, in my mind, I completely agree with the turtle. I see my heart often struggle with the circumstances in my life. In retrospect, I can always see that the Universe was interweaving and unfolding my path in the most remarkable way. Yet sitting in the challenges and the dark nights in my life, I sit and question -- resisting what is going on, exhausting myself.

Wouldn't we be able to relax more about our lives if we believed that everything was in perfect order in the Universe. I am giving myself the assignment this week to understand this more clearly. How different would I feel if I was able to fully embrace this idea? How much energy might I conserve if I stopped resisting people and situations in my life? Would I go about my life differently?

The other idea that I loved in the movie was centered around the importance of self-belief. The seemingly clumsy Panda expected the Dragon Scroll they awarded him to give him a secret to tap into unlimited potential. When he opened the scroll, it was blank! How could this be? Did the words get erased over the 1,000 years the scroll was waiting to be opened. Or, was there a hidden message?

The Panda felt hopeless, like it was impossible for him to rise up to be the one to save the village. How could he, a lumpy, chunky, clumsy Panda be capable of heroic acts? As he was about to face the evil foe, he looked at the scroll and saw his own reflection. He realized that the key to it all was knowing that he was special, that he must believe in himself. As he did this, magical things happened. He tapped into deep strength, undying courage and rose to the occasion.

Isn't it interesting that so often you can have two people with equal abilities yet one attains greater success and notoriety than the other? What is the difference? What is the "it" factor that they talk about? The key to making magic in life is self-belief.

Many of us think we believe in ourselves. But we find that during life's challenges we start to question our capabilities. We doubt. We begin to limit our possibilities. What if we were able to maintain our self-belief more of the time? If we did, miraculous magic would be unleashed -- sparkling, shining and causing us to question why we didn't just believe in the first place.

I challenge us to take a look at the level of self-belief we are experiencing. Take the time to write down ways in which you continue to question your abilities. Are there negative thoughts and self-talk that you notice this week? If so, commit it to paper. As you see these self-imposed limits, you have the opportunity to transform them one thought at a time.

Inspired by Kung Fu Panda,
