Harness Your Power: Try New Things

I am a morning person. I typically rise at 5:30 a.m. to enjoy the peace of our home so I can meditate and work on writing my weekly articles or making progress on my book. It's my favorite time of the day. Around 6:30 a.m. my youngest daughter Skye wanders down the stairs and snuggles beside me on the couch as I finish up my work. (This is a picture of my sparkling daughter).

Skye is a dynamic little girl. This week she decided she wanted to dress as a ballerina for school. She wore a pink mesh ballerina skirt over her jeans, some shiny black shoes and wore her hair in a bun to get the look she wanted. May I remind you she is only 3 1/2. A true character! (She often wears a Hannah Montana wig when we got out to run errands!)

This morning she came down and showed me that she can now snap. Last week she got really focused on figuring out how to snap her fingers. When Dad sings, he often snaps. I think she also saw her teacher doing this at school during music time. She was determined and focused on learning this new skill. After a week of practice, she has almost mastered it! Now she is so excited to show off her new skill.

This got me thinking about how fun it is to learn and try new things. Kids thrive on the excitement of expanding their skills. They are often relentless -- trying again and again until they figure it out. Some adults do this as well, but many of us get so busy in our daily lives that we often put aside our inner yearnings to learn something fresh.

I'd like to encourage you to let your desires for growth and expansion to emerge. Even if you feel you don't have time for learning, at least listen to your heart. What would you really like to learn how to do? Would learning how to cook Thai food excite you? Maybe you have always wanted to dance? Or, is it time to refresh your guitar skills? Has there been a language you have always had interest in? Whatever it is that would bring you joy, just begin to write your ideas down.

Some of my clients take the time to write down a list of "The things I'd like to do and experience by age 35 (or, 40, 50, 60, 70 etc.)." The people I've met who have done some really cool things are usually the ones that are very clear in knowing what they'd like to do. They've taken the time to think through their list. Then, they pick something from their list and begin -- whether it is saving for the trip of their dreams or signing up for a class -- they get started and find a way to fit what they love into their lives. Because they have a list, they are able to fit these things into the hours of time that open up in their schedules rather than sitting in front of the TV because they don't have anything else in mind to do.

Take what is in your heart and put it on the page. Why not write your own list this week? Let your creative juices flow. Don't put limits on the exercise --no worrying about where you'll get the money or how you'll fit it into your schedule. Just commit your dreams to paper.

Notice how you feel just thinking about these ideas! Imagine what it will be like to actually experience them.

My next learning experience is one I never would have thought of months ago. Because of the recent experiences I've had with producing TV segments to air in Nigeria and now on a local Philadelphia cable called MindTV, I've realized I want to know more about Television and broadcasting. So, I'm beginning to ask around about classes at local colleges where I can get exposed to this learning! I'm also attending a class on Thursday that is a boot camp for learning how to produce 5 minute TV segments. It feels refreshing when we take the steps to continually expand our minds!

Take the time to write your list this week! Let your heart beat fast again!

On a different note, for any of you who are feeling the darkness of life, please check out my article on Vanguard this week. I believe it will encourage your heart: http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/21835/82/ .

With great love for each of you,

Harness Your Power: Using Silence More

An insight that I gained this week is that silence is a powerful tool and it can be used in many ways, shapes and forms. Sitting in silence and meditating on a daily basis helps to calm the mind and connect to inner peace and wisdom. Silence can also be used more powerfully in our communication.

When we are in a conversation and don't know exactly how to respond, what do we often do? We talk and talk rather than just sitting quietly. Quiet moments feel awkward to us so we fill them with chit chat. What if instead we were simply quiet when we didn't have an answer to another person's accusation or question? Might it be possible that a few seconds of silence might allow for clarity and deep insight to emerge?

Many times as we express our truth to others we talk for long periods of time. Wouldn't it be more powerful if we expressed a need, want or opinion succinctly and then let a period of silence open up. Giving the other person in the conversation a moment to sit with what was just said and to gather their thoughts and give a response is a very powerful approach. Most of the time we will state our truth and then give a variety of reasons to support and defend what we are saying. More words actually create less power. A few words with silence following them creates a statement with deep impact.

Watch your patterns in communication this week. Notice how often you try to fill silent moments with words because of inner discomfort. Silent moments are beautiful and multi-dimensional. They are fantastic and significant once you get the hang of them.

I also am becoming aware of the power of silence in parenting. So often we react and give our children a piece of our minds. What if instead of lecturing we stated how we felt or what we wanted and then allowed for quiet? Or, what if as we saw a tantrum coming on, rather than trying to control it, we just sat quietly and watched it unfold before us. Silence in parenting can bring about dramatic shifts in dynamics.

I write all this because of my own new awareness. I share from my heart and give you ideas of ways that I am learning to approach situations. If your current approach isn't working, producing the peace, joy and hope you want to experience, why not try something new?

That's where I am at. I want to facilitate poignant, loving moments in all of my relationships.

May your week be filled with more silent moments and clarity,

Patricia Omoqui

Harness Your Power: Remove Self Limits!

I mentioned in my blog last week that I had been feeling an inner tension between accepting where I am in my life and feeling ready for certain things to change -- like my house and moving my life mission to another level of reaching people. I gained some amazing insights this week about myself and it helped me to realize how I created where I am right now, at this point in time.

As I felt the resistance to my current house, I noticed something important -- I felt dissatisfied with being in this space because it didn't match who I have become. Let me explain. Several years ago when we purchased our house I was in the depths of scarcity thinking -- feeling that we could never meet our bills, feeling that we were just scraping by each month and feeling that it wasn't necessary to spend money on "elaborate" things. Thus, we ended up buying a very reasonably priced place -- it is nice, don't get me wrong. We have had plenty of space as we started our family. We enjoy the diversity in our neighborhood. There are many aspects of our house that we enjoy.

So, as I asked for a deeper understanding of my resistance, I began to see that very clearly I had not only created this situation for myself in choosing to buy a lower priced house because of my fear of money but ALSO, because I was in "survival mode" in the way I lived, I ended up decorating the house in a way that matched who I was at the time we bought it.

At that time in my life I was all about functionality -- keeping our lives rolling day-by-day, feeling the daily struggle of life and feeling a lot of stress about getting by each day. What has changed over the years as I have released my fears and changed my view of myself and my life is that I now value BEAUTY. In the past, I didn't value beauty -- I valued functionality. Decorating the house was a chore, a means to an end. Now, I enjoy beauty -- in fact, those who are closest to me have visibly seen me change in the way I dress, the jewelry I buy, the way I do my hair . . .in so many ways. I look like a different person compared to who I was in 2002.

Another great example to show my beliefs and values -- my husband used to take the time to buy me flowers. Yes, I liked flowers but most of all, I would tell him not to get them again because I felt it was a waste of money! So, of course, he stopped buying them for me. My fear of not having enough money kept me from enjoying so many aspects of life!

Fast forward to 2008. I LOVE and CELEBRATE BEAUTY. I buy fresh flowers for the living room because I enjoy them so much. I no longer live in a scarcity mentality -- instead, I focus on the abundance in my life. So, to sum it up, I saw very clearly this week why I was feeling inner resistance to my house right now. The way I decorated it years back doesn't match who I am right now!

It was powerful for me to understand so clearly how my thoughts created my reality. Now my thoughts have changed and because of this, my physical reality is changing all around me.

It's time for me to get some beautifully colored paints, some new decorations for the inside of the house and to make my house an expression of who I am in 2008. It will be such a joyful process for me to do this! I never enjoyed taking the time for decorating because I thought it was a waste of time. Imagine this, "SOLDIER TRISH" is now taking the time to enjoy the variety in life, the beauty in life -- and she is finally having a blast experiencing it all!

I love it when we have these mental breakthroughs where our inner eyes and inner ears see and hear so clearly what is going on inside of us. It is such a wonderful exploration process to understand who we are and why we have created the experience we are living right now.

The power comes in knowing that at any moment I choose I can be a NEW & IMPROVED ME! I can be a Trish who loves interior decorating now. I can be a Trish who enjoys buying fresh flowers and receiving fresh flowers and plants all the time. How fun! I am learning to explore and express all aspects of myself. It makes life so rich, so delicious and amazingly delightful.

In what ways are you limiting yourself from experiencing life? Give thought to it this week. You may discover some interesting insights that will help you in your next stage of personal growth.

I love transformation. I love knowing that I can CHOOSE who I am. I love knowing seeing myself and others evolve and express their powerful spirits in new ways in life.

I wish you a week full of insights!
With love, hope and beauty,
Trish Omoqui

Harness Your Power: Waking Up to Life!

Scene 1: The alarm clock goes off. The young woman rolls over in her bed and pushes the snooze button. She is dreading the day. Her job drains her -- she is busy at work but the type of work she is doing doesn't excite her anymore. The newness of the job wore off several years ago but she has continued at the job because she is unsure of what other types of jobs she'd even enjoy. She stays in bed so long that now getting ready for work and out the door on time means she will be racing against time. She goes into auto-pilot mode: shower, make-up, hair, clothes, coffee, packed lunch and out the door. She feels lowsy about the day ahead. She resigns herself to her life and keeps her daily routine going.

Scene 2: The alarm clock goes off. The young woman wakes with a smile. She feels rested from a good night's sleep. She takes a moment before sitting up to take stock of some of the things she feels thankful for -- a warm bed, a kind neighbor, a loving family, a strong body....She has energy this morning and feels ready for a new day. Each step she takes that morning feels wonderful to her: as she showers her body feels alive again. As she blow dries her hair, she sings her favorite song to herself. As she puts on her makeup she notices how beautiful her face is and she smiles at herself and says, "I'm proud of you." As she puts on her clothes she can see the progress in her body from the exercise that she added to her routine in the New Year. She heads to the kitchen for a light breakfast and smiles at the fact that there is good, healthy food in her fridge. She leaves her house feeling excited about the day and invigorated by the work she has ahead of her.

Two scenes. Two totally different feelings to life. One woman. Two different times in her life.

This is me. The first scene is me five years ago. The second scene gives a glimpse of me now.

The difference: I am awake to my life now. I used to robotically walk through my life. I would "grin and bear it" because that is what I was supposed to do. I was in non-stop motion several years back and wasn't fully aware of the choices I was making and the impact it was having on how I felt and what I was creating with my life. I was highly intelligent. I had a great heart that cared about people. I was just stuck in patterns and habits and I didn't even know it.

The change: many of you know that my daughter Maggie's illness was my point of choice -- I was either going to allow life to overcome me or I was going to learn to look at my life and live my life in a new way. Thankfully I was surrounded by wonderful people in my life and beautiful mentors who encouraged me down the path to waking up to my life again.

I woke up to my life by bringing my unconscious choices to conscscious awareness.

By observing and noticing my beliefs, thoughts, feelings, actions and habits of relating with others, I was empowered to consciously choose to create my life in a new way, in a way that I could enjoy.

This week two of my life coaching clients happened to be watching Oprah the same day. Oprah had Louise Hay on her show along with two life coaches. Neither of my clients had planned to watch Oprah that day but the circumstances of their lives led them to the show. Louise Hay is a beautiful soul -- she knows the power of our thoughts and the impact they have on creating the reality we live. She is awake to life and teaches others to wake up to their power and potential. She is someone I admire greatly.

The reason I bring up this show is that each of my clients was also introduced to a wonderful new book that Oprah has chosen for her book club: Eckhart Tohle's, A New Earth. Oprah and Eckhart are going to be teaching a 10 week class on the topic. My soul is singing because of this. They are introducing to millions of people the idea of waking up to life.

I decided to go to Barnes & Noble last night after the kids were in bed. I wasn't planning on buying the book but happened upon it. I knew buying it was the right move because I've enjoyed Eckhart Tohle's other work (The Power of Now, Stillness Speaks) and have been changed as I began to live the concepts he teached. I'm so glad I bought this book. After I got home I began reading and I couldn't put the book down. I've been saying the past year that I believe it is possible to experience Heaven on Earth -- that it is all a matter of how we view our lives, the thoughts we choose and our approach to each day. Eckhart's book echoes the same ideas.

I believe we are ready to wake up to our lives as a society. Yesterday as I sat waiting for my kid's to finish up their dance class, I was talking with some of the other mom's. We were talking about how easy it is to live a non-stop, totally booked life. One of the mom's remarked: "I hope that our society will change." I said in response, "I believe it can and will as each of us individually make changes to slow our lives down and live with a conscious awareness of what we are creating. . . .by doing this our inner lights shine brighter and people will notice a difference and want to understand how we've been able to create a life that is so enjoyable and full of good energy." I'm not sure if she could hear what I was saying, but I know in my heart that this is the case.

A wave of change is moving across our planet. People are ready to experience life in a new way. People are more open now than they ever have been to finding change and to experiencing joy again.

Are you ready? Are you feeling excited about each day or are you dreading it? Are you aware of your thoughts? Are you aware of the choices you make throughout the day and how each choice impacts your energy?

By observing and understanding what we are experiencing and how we create our own reality, we become powerful and gain the knowledge we need to step-by-step shift our lives.

Have a super week! Check out Eckhart's new book (or his other books). He is an amazing man with a deep understanding of life. Also, you can check out Oprah's course she is offering: http://www.oprah.com/obc_classic/webevent_registration.jsp .

If you are ready to wake up to your life in a totally new way, and if you feel you need some guidance and assistance in doing this, please let me know. My work as a life coach is to assist people in this process of regaining a true sense of their own power and purpose -- to show them that they can make new choices and in doing so, create new, amazing and joyful lives.

With love, hope and bright light shinging on the World to Wake more of us up to life,

Trish
