I'm sitting down on Memorial day evening. I've gotten spit up on my shirt. It's been an interesting holiday.
I had no idea that I'd have an extra baby living with me this weekend. It was Love's calling. A girl in my neighborhood who has a 10 month old son decided a week ago that she wanted to kick her drug addiction. I was out of town on my book retreat when the text message came, "You told me that when I was ready to surrender and move forward that you and your family would help me. I'm ready." I was in awe. This was truly miraculous.
This text message kicked off a tremendous learning process for me and several family members.
There have been many ups and downs. I've had moments of tremendous anger and sadness as she tried to run away and told me, "I'm taking my baby and I'm going to get high...I don't care what you think." Then, hours later, after she and the baby sat in the pouring rain with no shelter, we received the phone call, "Please come get me. I need help. I need to get better."
We have had special moments too. A few days into her withdrawal process she said, "I don't want to lose my son. I want to get better. I have to do this. Thank you for helping me even when I have pushed you away."
Little did I know that this weekend I'd have baby boy with me. Before entering a several month rehab program with her baby, this young lady was required to detox further under medical supervision and she couldn't bring her son. Thus began our four day adventure. I was given formula, wipes, diapers and clothes.
My children loved it of course. Maggie and Skye enjoy playing mommy. I've cherished it too -- though I must confess that it has been exhausting and has really got me to thinking. What became clear to me is that when we offer love, we must be willing to go where love wants us to go and do what love needs us to do. Sometimes this comes down to changing diapers, wiping up spit up and making sure another person's child is safe while they get better.
I honestly never would have thought that I'd be doing this. I had planned to get an article written, to have time for relaxing and cleaning up the house. The Universe always keeps me on my toes. I am always surprised by how things turn out.
I met this girl only nine weeks ago in my neighborhood. I've been given a crash course in addictions. I've learned that until a person is ready to surrender, until THEY WANT to get better, there is no stopping them from doing what they want to do. I sat in the hospital one night after I got the news she had overdosed. I went there prepared to hear the news that my friend had died. But, she survived.
I write all this only to say that I have been reminded again that LOVE is patient, kind...it goes the extra mile, it does what it might not even want to do, it serves when and where it is called. I'm being forced to live what I teach day in and day out. I'm being stretched. I'm growing in ways I never anticipated and being given crash courses by the Universe on topics I never thought I'd be exposed to.
I pray often, "God use me in whatever way you need me today." And God never allows a willing servant to go without an assignment :) Perhaps God is chuckling lovingly at me while reading what I've written.
Let us all willingly follow where Love calls us.
Written in love and with a prayer for my friend and for all addicts worldwide to find a way to freedom,

Harness Your Power: Release Impatience

I had an amazing experience this week. I was out to lunch for some Mexican food when my intuition whispered to me, "Go to Marshalls." At first I thought, that's silly-- I don't need to buy anything. But again, the whispers came, "Go to Marshalls." I felt the direction so strongly that I knew I needed to follow this guidance even though it made no sense to me at all.
I wandered around the store. I ended up in the home goods section where I found a nice 2009 calendar with inspirational quotes. It was the style I liked and I knew it would be helpful to have my '09 calendar on hand so I headed to the checkout. I wasn't convinced that this calendar was such a big deal.
When I got to the checkout line I noticed a shelf full of books on sale. There were two books that caught my eye. The first was called Peace Angels. It was a coffee table type of book with lots of pictures and very few words. Because of a writing project I'm working on, I knew the book was right for me. Next, I found a book called Mindfulness. One of the daily practices I teach all of my clients is mindfulness. So, I picked the book up and began to look through it. Perfect. It was an amazing find for my own personal learning. It covered the topic of mindfulness in more depth than I knew it could possibly be covered.
I checked out and sat in the car for a few moments in awe of the guidance that led me to these two books. It was as if my guardian angels were directing my every step.
Later that evening I sat down and looked more closely at the book on mindfulness. I opened the book to a chapter on impatience. Again, I got what I needed. Have you ever felt such a strong desire for a dream to become reality that you feel impatient for it to happen? I've experience that feeling on a regular basis lately. "Come on, Universe, I'm ready for this dream to come true now. Can't you see it? Please, bring it on," were the thoughts that often went through my mind.
As I read each word of the chapter I was reminded that each step of my journey is absolutely essential. What I experience today is preparation for my next step... and ultimately, necessary for the dreams I have in my heart to manifest.
So, what is it that keeps me from simply enjoying right where I am in this moment? Why do I want to rush? It's been a week of understanding the importance of keeping my focus fully in the NOW so that I don't miss a gem of wisdom or an ounce of joy.
I challenge us (myself and you) this week to fully enjoy every moment of your life. Why not relax and be patient? If you sense impatience, ask yourself why you feel the need to rush. Then, take a few moments and take stock of the beauty, joy, hope and peace that is already present in your life experience. I bet if you look closely you will see more opportunities for enjoyment and gratitude than you suspected.
Be patient. It's about the journey, not the destination alone.
May your week be full of abundant blessings,
Patricia Omoqui

Harness Your Power: Growing In Patience
This week I have experienced a personal challenge (no, do not assume based on the picture on this blog that I am pregnant! Ha Ha). The challenge has come in the form of one that I have experienced before. In fact, I believe that it is a personal pattern I have (and that many of us have). The pattern is one where I see that inside myself I have grown into something new but my "newness" has not manifested yet in the circumstances of my life. As I see my heart longing for the changes I desire to come about, I feel impatience -- and the impatience creates resistance and suffering inside me.
I've experienced this in many forms the past few years. A few years ago, I was sitting in a corporate job. I had outgrown the job and the situation as a whole. Yet, for over two years I sat there knowing I needed to have patience until the time was right to make a change. At first, my resistance to the situation in my job was strong. I just wanted change to come. I was so focused on my desire for change that I felt restless and sometimes exhausted by waiting. After awhile I grew to realize that if I simply embraced the moment and the current circumstance, amazing possibilities would open up in the situation.
The possibilities in that particular situation were remarkable -- I was able to clarify that I wanted to start my own business. I was able to remember the gifts and talents I had and determine how I wanted to express myself in the World. AND, during that time I started my business -- I would spend my lunch hour and evening hours doing life coaching. I also began to use my vacation days to get on stage and start speaking again. When I was finally laid off from my job, I was ready to fully launch my business. How gracious the Universe was in allowing me those years of transition.
None of that possibility would have opened up for me if I stayed in a state of resistance to my circumstances.
So, I find myself again in a similar situation. My heart is ready for a new home that "fits" who I have become the last few years. I find myself wanting to be "in the next stage." Yet, by fighting my current circumstances, I feel that resistance inside myself. This resistance to the NOW causes intense inner struggles for me. I have trained myself to observe my mind -- so I can clearly watch the mental patterns going on inside me.
I've realized that it all truly does boil down to choice of thought and choice of mental focus. It is a moment-by-moment choice to either resist the NOW or to flow with the NOW. It is a moment-by-moment choice to accept our circumstances or to judge them as "less than" what we expect. It is a moment-by-moment choice to feel gratitude or to find what is not quite right with a situation.
How powerful can we become? We can become as powerful as we choose to be in each moment.
I realized something the last week -- when we are developing new aspects of ourselves, it is as if a fetus is growing within us. I remember when I was pregnant with Maggie and Skye how long those last few months of waiting for my children to be born felt to me -- it felt like another 3 months would be an eternity. Everyone around me kept telling me to enjoy the time of quiet and rest. Yet, I just wanted the baby to arrive.
The last months of a baby's development in the womb are essential for the baby to be born thriving and in wonderful condition for entering the World. I would never want a premature baby -- because of the risks associated with it. I want my babies to be born fully ready for the World around them.
It is the same with those desires that form within us. The Universe is so kind to us by not allowing those desires to be birthed in form until they have matured -- and until we are fully prepared for their arrival in our lives.
So, here I am. I choose this moment to accept where I am. I choose to be embrace the desires of my heart and trust that they will be born at the perfect moment in time. I choose to be calm and peaceful as I grow. I choose to harness my power by growing my patience and by growing my trust that the Universe allows my desires to manifest into reality at the perfect moment.
I know this in my head. Slowly, but surely, it is seeping into my cells and I am seeing that I can embody these truths rather than just mentally acknowledging them.
Can you relate to this feeling? If so, please leave a comment or drop me an email at patricia@patriciaomoqui.com .
I am blessed to be learning and growing. I am blessed to be able to share these thoughts with you via this blog.
Have a week filled with patient accepting of your NOW moment.
With love, light, joy, peace and hope,
Trish
