Have you ever noticed that when you have a cut, it begins to itch as your body heals it? It is all too easy to start scratching at the scab and open the wound back up. In fact, I've been witnessing this first hand with one of my daughters this week. I was reminded clearly: wounds don't heal, in fact, they can get quite infected, if you don't let them heal without picking at them!
Isn't that the truth with our inner wounds too. Time heals our inner traumas, that is, if we aren't constantly opening them up. Many people spend time talking of dramas, traumas and past hurts, re-living them over and over in their head. They do this so much that they prevent their complete healing. I'm not saying that it isn't good to express how we feel about things we've experienced that have been hard for us. It is good to process and tell your story. It's powerful to understand the roots of our patterns for the purpose of moving forward and not repeating them.
Remember this week that repeatedly opening up old wounds to dig around in them is much different than applying ointment, a bandaid and letting the natural process of spirit-mending to take place.
If you could use support in moving beyond the past so you can fully enjoy the present, please drop me an email at thoughtdr@patriciaomoqui.com . Life coaching might be just what you need to make huge leaps forward in your personal well-being.

Harness Your Power: What's On Your Mind?

There are times when I just don't know what to write. Today is a day like that. You might find that hard to believe given how much I write (a daily email, a weekly blog and a weekly column).
Most of the time words gush from my soul. Yet, sometimes an inner silence grows inside me and I just need to sit and listen until something more arises. Or, I wait and then I receive an email from a reader of my column or a client or a friend and it stimulates fresh ideas.
So, today, I ask you to share your perspectives with me. What is on your mind and in your heart? Are there struggles? Is there excitement? Are you making progress in a way that you never imagined? Tell me about you. Tell me what topics you need to hear more about.
The one thing I can tell you is that change is constant. When I sat down to write my weekly column yesterday, here is what came out:
Change
There is tension in the space between where I am and where I am going. It is a mixture of excitement for the new chapter and a sadness to let go of my current one. At the darkest points, in times of greatest uncertainty of what is to come, the dawn is closest. The sun rises promising something fresh and new, yet there is a hesitation – a fear of what comes next.
Then the words stopped. That was as far as I could go. I moved on to edit an article I already drafted. At some point more words will come to finish that article.
I am in the midst of many life changes. I know that something new is coming but I don't even know what that means yet. I found out yesterday that some of my closest family members are moving to another state. I found myself feeling sadness. It's always hard to say goodbye yet I trust that the Universe aligns our lives in the most amazing ways. So, I forced myself over and over to come back to the present moment, breathing deeply and opening to peace. My constant affirmation lately has been: I rest in the peace of the Universe.
That's where I am today, in peace. Living right now. Opening to the beauty of What Is. Resting. Trusting that my life unfolds miraculously moment by moment. I open to Life.
I look forward to hearing from you this week via email or comments on this blog. Take the time to write. I value your perspectives. I learn from your thoughts and your life story.
With great love for you,
Patricia Omoqui

Harness Your Power: Experience Beauty

I just finished a walk at a park near my home. I saw so many beautiful things. Two white butterflies were playfully fluttering along. A brilliant bluebird darted in front of me. The buds on the trees are forming, some of them are fully open now. There was a gentle breeze that kept me from sweating too much. When I closed my eyes I heard a marvelous symphony of birds chirping, wind blowing, and children laughing. There were four deer feeding on the fresh, green grass.
If I had been lost in mental chatter fretting about tomorrow, I wouldn't have noticed any of it. How do I know this? Because I've lived like that. There have been so many times I went for a walk in this park and didn't notice even one of these things. I'd have myself focused on getting my workout done -- it was a means to an end. I would walk so fast and try to figure out my to do list or how to solve the many problems in my life while I walked.
As I have calmed my mind and learned to live in the moment, I have found life to be incredibly rich and full of beauty. I stop now and marvel when I notice the first orange butterfly of the season land on a nearby flower. I sit on the bench and take a few deep breaths and let my body relax. Life feels easier. There certainly are still challenges -- real and seemingly daunting ones. But, rather than waiting until all my problems are solved to be happy, I choose to be happy and enjoy life right NOW!
The biggest change I've made is in my mind. In using the Harness Your Power process to transform my thinking, I have transformed my entire life experience.
Years ago when my suffering was at its most intense point, I never thought there would be a day that I could say: I am in awe of life and I enjoy life. I used to tolerate each day. Now, I see that there is always something miraculous to celebrate.
This doesn't mean I avoid the challenges. I just approach them in a totally different way. I relax myself. I realize that situations can transform in miraculous ways. I see each moment as perfect for my journey and growth. I have come to understand that I am always being guided. For each difficulty that pops up in my life, there is always a way to move through it!
This week I saw a marvelous example of guidance. David, my husband, came down the stairs. I remembered that I wanted to suggest to him a book I had seen in a local bookstore. "David, you really should read the book Africa Rising," I said. "You have to be kidding me," he replied. He went on to explain, "I was just on the phone with a professor from Drexel and not more than five minutes ago she told me that I needed to read the book Africa Rising." We both chuckled. More and more we are experiencing this clear, direct guidance from the Universe. It's delightful to become aware of how easily we are led along life's path.
As fate would have it, we were about to take the kids to the library to get some books. And, of course, we were able to find the book Africa Rising for David to have at his disposal that evening.
Is life easy or hard?
Is it miraculous or dreadful?
Can you see the beauty all around you?
If you are struggling, please take heart. It is possible to feel better about life. If you need any help or support in doing this, please contact me at patricia@patriciaomoqui.com . I will do anything I can to provide you with my insights and experiences so that you too can feel joy, experience peace and open to the beauty that surrounds us all.
You are loved.
There is hope.

Harness Your Power: Live What You Know

This week I had my first session with a new client. She is a wonderful woman and I truly enjoyed the time we spent together. At the end of the session she said, "I know all these things you are telling me. In fact, I tell other people to do these things but I have not done this myself."
What I consistently see in my life coaching work is that we often need a bit of support to begin putting into practice the simple concepts that can improve our lives. We all know that if we eat healthy and exercise we will feel better. We also are aware that if we choose good thoughts, we can create better results in our lives.
Several years ago in the midst of my inner transformation, I bought a card that had the following phrase on it, "All know the way, few actually walk it." I framed the card and hung it by my bed so I could see it in the morning when I woke up and at night when I was ready for bed. I needed constant reminders that to become who I wanted to be, I had to put into action what I knew in my head.
Living in a new way takes consistent willingness to practice new ideas. Once you get the hang of practicing fresh ways of approaching your life, you will feel so much better. Once you taste feeling better, you won't want to go back and stick with your old ways. You may repeat old patterns but the suffering will feel so bad to you that you will soon shift your direction.
My challenge to you and to myself this week is to LIVE WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW.
Choose good thoughts this week.
Get up and get active. Move your body.
Get rest, eat healthy foods.
Engage in positive dialogue with others rather than dramatic, negative dialogue.
Listen intently.
Live in the present moment.
Open to miracles in each present moment.
Release the past. Stop worry of the future.
Be alive right now.
Enjoy every moment.
You know these ideas already, right? So, take a couple of them and take baby steps to practice them each day.
One small choice a day can begin to make a big shift in dynamics in your life.
If you need support, find a friend, a mentor or a coach like me to help you get started and move in the direction of what you REALLY want to experience in your life.
A big hug to all.
You are loved more than you understand.

Harness Your Power: Enjoy Life's Synchronicities

One day this week the idea came to mind to go to a store in the area and buy myself the largest size sketchbook they have. I enjoy doodling, coloring, and journaling. In fact, last year my mom bought me a set of colored pencils and I began drawing and sketching for the first time in my life. I've never been "artsy" in any way. But, as I've started the process of doing some artwork, I've been surprised at what can emerge when I just relax and let what is in my heart flow out onto the page.
As I was driving to the store to buy the sketchbook, another idea popped into my mind. I stopped at a thrift store on the way and decided just to look around for a few minutes. I'm so glad I followed this guidance. I went in and found a big sketchbook with heavy pages at a wonderful low price. I knew it was for me because on the front cover was my symbol -- a blue butterfly!
When I attended a life coaching training several years ago in California, one of the speakers had us do a simple exercise. He had us close our eyes and do some deep breathing. Then he had us pose a question to ourselves, "What is my soul symbol?" He suggested we listen to the first answer or picture that popped into our head. The answer that came to my mind was a butterfly. Next he asked us what color our symbol was. I immediately sensed it was a blue butterfly.
When I woke up the morning after we had done this exercise, I went to check my email. Would you believe that someone had sent me an e-card and on the front of the birthday card was a blue butterfly! What! How is this possible?
Of course, after that training I began seeing blue butterflies everywhere I went.
So, back to the thrift store. I picked up the sketchbook and went to the counter to pay. The counter near the cash register was a glass case with jewelry and other small items in it. As I was waiting to pay I noticed a beautiful, silver butterfly ring and a pair of butterfly earrings with small blue gems in them. How amazing. And, they were very reasonably priced so I purchased them.
For the price I would have paid at the store I had originally intended to go to buy the big sketchbook, I instead got the sketchbook and the butterfly jewelry.
Amazing how the Universe works and guides me even in the small, fun aspects of living.
What a blessing this sketchbook has been. I am an early riser. The morning is my favorite time of day. Each day I get up around 5:30 a.m. I got downstairs to have my coffee and I sit with my sketchbook. I use whatever words and images that come to my mind to create a page that represents where I am in my life. What I love about this is recording my life lessons is so fun when I'm doing this in an artistic way!
Do you tune into the guidance you receive? When you get an urge or an insight to call someone, stop at a particular place or write to someone, do you follow this guidance? If you don't, what is holding you back? Life is so amazing and rich when we tune into this wisdom.
The more I quiet my mental chatter and release my fears, the more I hear this guidance. The more I follow this direction, the better my life becomes. There are times when I am in such awe of how I am helped with even the smallest details in my life.
Knowing and experiencing this brings deep inner peace. I feel myself relaxing into life more and more. Fighting life, worrying and fretting about things. takes too much energy. It is just not necessary to get worked up. The key to stopping this it to notice the patterns of worry, fear and self-doubt going on in your mind. Just notice them. Watch the impact these thoughts have on your life. Question the thoughts. Ask if you might be able to choose new thoughts, ones that help you to feel better.
Notice this week when you receive inspired ideas. Follow them. See what happens. Share your synchronicities with others...it is so lovely to see how we are all guided in such fantastic ways. I'd love to hear your stories like this. Drop me an email if you want to share.
Enjoying life's synchronicities and opening to experience even more of them!
